Without Good Governance, A Society Cannot Hope to Improve.
First of all I would like to thank the tireless effort of our volunteers, community, municipal, government workers, our friends, and our families for dedicating your time to keeping our community safe in the aftermath of Typhoon Ulysses.
In the last few days―between our patrols around Aliaga, during visits to families, and while reading and reviewing the requests you sent to my office―I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on the concept of good governance.
Without good governance, a society cannot hope to improve.
But what is good governance anyway?
The concept can have many definitions, according to many different leaders.
In a democracy, there is no one correct approach for managing public affairs, using public resources, and responding to the public need. Instead, we look to sources of inspiration and seek to emulate and aspire towards the best models of good governance.
As for Aliaga, it is my wish our society be built on four key areas:
Empowered citizenry;
Empowered communities;
Compassion and service; and
Rule of law
We recognize and value the participation and input of you, our citizens to tell us what you need and how we can serve you better.
It is our responsibility as government, to serve the public and keep it safe. We aim to serve you, with not only the present in mind, but also to safeguard the security of your health, happiness and prosperity in the future.
By working together, we hope to reach a society where ultimately not one Aliageno is left behind. We seek a society founded on mutual respect and human dignity.
While easier said than done, I am confident in the steps we are taking today to realize this future.
No society, no system, and no leader is perfect, but we are doing everything in our power, from the local barangay captains, to the officers at the municipality, to ensure your trust in us has not been misplaced.
I ask that you Aliaga keep our local government accountable. Continue to call our attention when you think we should be doing better. There is no one above or below anyone. We are partners. The road may be long, the work may be hard, but we can do it. I am thankful for the continued support and trust of my fellow Aliagenos.
